The Mission

Yesterday, I finished my shift and didn't want to go home. I just sat in my car thinking about Soccara being sad. This hospital has a no visitors allowed policy in the emergency room due to Covid.
My youngest daughter Darlene does a great “Karen” and has been able to get in but gets kicked out fairly quickly.
So there I sat briefly thinking of doing a “Kyle” but figured that won't work since my kids using that approach.
After a few minutes deep in thought I decided to go with what I had been doing in the other hospital and buy donuts. Wherever they move her I buy dozens of donuts for that floor or area.
I probably have spent more on donuts the last few weeks than some low-skilled people make in a month but I digress.
A two-pronged attack, Darlene at night doing her “Karen” and me in the day bearing gifts. I very much liked this idea it felt like we were on a secret mission.
When I entered the lobby to the left were four members of the security team gossiping and laughing. There was a gentleman in front of me who said he had been waiting twenty minutes but no one had helped him yet.
When he left for a smoke I approached the security team with donuts above my head and said, “anyone hungry? “
The main guy said, “hell yeah, we love donuts!”
I walked closer but put my donuts down to my side.
I laughed, and said, “ you can have some but you need to pull up my wife's record.”
He nodded and typed in his computer and started walking towards the emergency room area.
I yelled to him before he entered and said,” send a nurse or an aide out I have another dozen for her.”
Within five minutes a nurse appeared with the head of security and asked, “you bought donuts?”
I nodded and said, “you guys work hard I just wanted to show my appreciation.”
She smiled and said, “that was so nice of you.”
I saddened my face a bit on my response and said, “I only wish I had enough money to buy more for you guys.”
I saw by her reaction I was doing well and she escorted me to Soccara’s bed.
It’s pretty funny how easily it went considering how hard they were on Darlene. I showed no Identification and no vaccination card.
Soccara was ecstatic to see me and I went over the plan we had to get her released. We had made a lot of phone calls since her condition stabilized.
This no visiting crap will not work.
If we have to we will do a non-emergency transfer to the other hospital that is scheduled for tomorrow.
One way or another she is not staying here.
So that’s all I have for now people.
Just remember, with enough donuts you could rule the world.
But would you want to?
